Pakistan Australia by 7 wickets in 2nd ODI

ABU DHABI: Opener Nasir Jamshed hit an aggressive 97 to guide Pakistan to a seven-wicket win over Australia in the second one-day, levelling the three-match series at 1-1.

Scorecard

The 22-year-old left-hander took the attack to the Australian bowlers during his 98-ball innings, hitting 11 boundaries and two well-timed sixes to help his team successfully chase a challenging 249-run target in the 43.4 overs at Abu Dhabi Stadium.

Australia owed their recovery to another left-hander Michael Hussey (61) to post a challenging total despite an impressive performance by Pakistan's ace spinner Saeed Ajmal (4-32).

Australia had won the first match by four wickets in Sharjah on Tuesday. The third and final match will be played in Sharjah on Monday.

Pakistan's batting, which folded in the first one-day for 198, showed a remarkable improvement as Jamshed and Mohammad Hafeez (23) raced to 66 by the 12th over to set their team on course for a win.

Even when Hafeez pulled Dan Christian straight into the hands of Hussey, Jamshed remained unperturbed, treating the Australian bowlers with contempt as he pulled Christian for two exquisite sixes over mid-wicket.

He brought up his sixth one-day fifty off 58 balls. As he looked set for his second hundred, Jamshed miscued a drive off Mitchell Johnson straight into the hands of Starc at mid-off. He added 101 for the second wicket with Azhar Ali who made 59 not out.

Pakistan also lost Asad Shafiq (9) but Ali and Misbah-ul Haq (35) saw off the target.

Australian pacers Starc and James Pattinson who shared eight wickets between them in the first match failed in the excessive dew as they found the ball hard to grip, dismissing just one batsman.

Earlier, Hussey came good with his 38th one-day fifty to lead Australian recovery from a precarious 87-4 after they won the toss and batted. Australia scored 73 runs in the last ten overs foiling Ajmal who at one point looked capable of keeping Australia down to 220.

Frank Lampard wants to manage Chelsea Soccer News

Frank Lampard has revealed he is planning a career in management - and there is only one job he has got his eye on.
The Chelsea midfielder has been at Stamford Bridge since 2001 and led the club to UEFA Champions League glory in May.
And the 34-year-old admits his thoughts have turned to the possibility of following the likes of Ruud Gullit, Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Di Matteo from the pitch to the dugout for the Blues.

"I know it might sound a bit selfish but I wouldn't want to go through 'showing myself' with a lower club.
"I am thinking about my coaching badges now but there is only one club I want to manage," Lampard told The Sun.
"Although I would never expect to walk into a position such as the Chelsea manager, this is the only club I'd want to manage."

Legacy

But Lampard, who has just one year remaining on his current deal at the club, is concerned about destroying his legacy as a player if he were to fail as a manager.
"I'd love to have a crack at it but I'd want to do it well," he added.
"I wouldn't want the supporters to forget everything I've tried to do as a player because I can't manage the team."
Lampard has played under a number of high-profile managers at Stamford Bridge including Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourinho, Luiz Felipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink and Andre Villas-Boas.
And he feels he has developed an understanding of what to do - and what not to do - from working under those bosses.
He said: "Without doubt I've picked up some good things that I'd do differently. The main thing I've learned is how to treat people properly.
"It's important to respect the players and by doing so, hopefully, you'll earn their respect back.
"We saw that with Jose Mourinho. I saw him being strong with players and having arguments but the vast majority who played or worked for him had a massive amount of respect for him."

Hashim Amla celebration his brilliant knock

England are Am-mered: Hashim Amla's knock of 150 decides second ODI

South Africa's 80-run win sees them add the one-day crown to the T20 and Test No.1 rankings they have already ripped off the hosts this summer

First it was T20s, then it was Tests, now England have been overtaken by South Africa as the best one day cricket team in the world.
An 80-run defeat was enough to leave South Africa as top dogs in all three formats and England to wonder where their one day mojo has gone.
Don’t let the tenth wicket fireworks from Samit Patel and Steve Finn fool you, they merely delayed the inevitable.
And on the day that their exiled batsman Kevin Pietersen racked up 163 runs for Surrey, England’s 207 all out was brought into sharp focus.
Over the course of this five match Natwest series, with three left to play, the lead could change hands several times, but on yesterday’s evidence it is hard to see how England will do it.
Just as it was in the Test series, South Africa outplayed them in every department and in Hashim Amla had a man-of-the-match who’s 150 was worth the entrance fee alone.
If England were to get somewhere close to their target of 288 they needed someone to make as telling a contribution as Amla, but with the top four back in the hutch before 20 overs had been bowled their chances were slim.
There was no point wishing KP was around, it was about backing Eoin Morgan and Patel to rescue the innings from 90-4 and then 118-5 to take the team towards an unlikely win. They failed.
When Morgan pulled JP Duminy to deep-midwicket for 27 the game was up and Tim Bresnan’s first ball duck underlined the point.
Amla can rightly be called the best batsman in the world right now and yesterday he produced his personal best to put England’s bowlers to the sword.
Yet his highest one day score seemed to creep up on the scoreboard as if by magic. One minute he had nought, the next 50 and the next 100.By the time he was out for exactly 150 the innings was in the 50th over and his job was done.
He had also reached 3,000 one day runs in the fewest innings of all time, 57 to Sir Viv Richards’ 69.
It was serene one day perfection and coming off just 124 balls it was the complete opposite of his Test match triple ton at the Oval.
If England are to win this series they need to find a way of getting past both him and Graeme Smith who made a functional 52.
They didn’t take the wickets up front to check South Africa’s progress and each partnership was worth at least 32 which means they didn’t take the wickets very often in the middle either.
That is a formula which will keep them on the back foot. England did miss a couple of chances behind the stumps when Amla had made 42 and again on 92, with the first a straightforward chance off Patel.
Skipper Alastair Cook said: “It is frustrating, but you don’t suddenly throw everything out of the window and reinvent the wheel after one bad display.”

Remote Record
Sterling was outstanding for the Reds in his first Premier League start for the club in last weekend's draw with champions Manchester City.
It was initially thought Liverpool would consider loaning out Sterling this season so that he could get some valuable first-team experience under his belt, but the 17-year-old has quickly established himself in Rodgers' plans.

A number of clubs were thought to be keen on taking Sterling on loan, but Rodgers has now ruled out a move for the teenager as he wants him to continue his development at Anfield.

Pakistan VS Australia ODI |Watch Live Stream

SHARJAH: Pakistan and Australia are all set meet in a three-match one-day series starting here on Tuesday, followed by as many Twenty20 internationals.

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul Haq believes his players will be extra motivated to win against Australia who they have not beaten for the last 10 years.

Misbah said his players will make an extra effort to register a series win which has eluded them since Pakistan's 2-1 win in Australia in 2002.

"Of course, whenever there is such a thing it charges the team in an extra way, its needs an extra effort to combine and beat an opponent who we have not beaten for some time," Misbah said Monday.

Pakistan have only two survivours in Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik from the team which beat Australia 10 years ago, but Misbah said all his players are focused against an opponent who are dangerous anywhere in the world.

"Australia are one of the top teams, it's difficult to beat them because they are a fighting team in any conditions of the world," said Misbah of the Australian team led by Michael Clarke.

"They have good players who put up the best fight and they are a difficult opponent," said Misbah, playing down the hype that it will be a series between Pakistani spin bowlers against Australian batsmen.

"I don't think we will only rely on spinners, we have to bat well and fast bowlers are very important for us because the ball reverse swings in Sharjah," said Misbah.

Misbah admitted it will be important for Pakistan to win after losing their last two one-day series, 3-1 in Sri Lanka and 4-1 here against England.

"I think its important for both the teams also for Australia," said Misbah of his opponents who lost 4-0 to England last month.

"For us it is very important because after this is the World T20, we couldn't give the kind of performance that we wanted in the last two series, so its a good chance for us to stage a comeback," said Misbah.

The Pakistan captain said oppressive conditions in United Arab Emirates, with the temperature scaling to 40-plus in the day and 35-plus in the evening, gives Pakistan some edge.

"Definitely, conditions suit us but our players are focused because they know teams can adapt quickly and we have to be at our best to beat Australia," said Misbah.

"We are going to play against a top team and if we win then we have advantage and it will help us in future. It also helps you improve when you play a top team and you remove your flaws," said Misbah.

The second match will be played in Abu Dhabi on August 31 followed by the third here on September 3. All three Twenty20 internationals will be played in Dubai on September 5, 7 and 10. (AFP)

15 year old Lydia Ko wins in Canada

COQUITLAM, British Columbia (AP) -- Lydia Ko made some more history - and made it clear that she has no plans to rush into a professional golf career.

Amateur Lydia Ko poses with the trophy after winning the Canadian Women's Open. (AFP)
The 15-year-old Ko is used to questions about her future, and she handled the latest round with ease Sunday after running away with the Canadian Women's Open to become the youngest winner in LPGA Tour history and only the fifth amateur champion.
''I'll still remain an amateur and then finish high school and then go to college,'' said Ko, who has mentioned Stanford as her college of choice. ''I mean this is a great win, but I don't think this will affect me changing my roots to my career.''

The South Korean-born New Zealander closed with a 5-under 67 for a three-stroke victory. She broke the age record of 16 set by Lexi Thompson last September in the Navistar LPGA Classic in Alabama, and is the first amateur winner since JoAnne Carner in the 1969 Burdine's Invitational.
''To break another record, or being in the history, it's amazing, and it's always awesome to be able to play with the pros,'' Ko said. ''The last few holes, it got a bit nerve wracking, but Stacy Lewis, after my birdie on 15, she said, 'You know you can do it.' It was really great to have another player that I look up to giving me that much support. So it was really awesome.''
In January, Ko won the New South Wales Open in Australia at 14 to become the youngest player to win a professional tour event, a mark broken by 14-year-old Brooke Henderson in June in a 36-hole Canadian Women's Tour event in Quebec. Ko also won the U.S. Women's Amateur two weeks ago in Cleveland.
''I didn't cry after this one,'' said Ko, but (after) that one I did cry,'' Ko said, referencing the Amateur. ''Yeah, to me, U.S. Amateur is a big event, and obviously this is a huge event as well. But still, as an amateur winning one of the biggest amateur events, I feel like it was a better win - even though this one was awesome.''
Ko finished at 13-under 275 at The Vancouver Golf Club, pulling away with birdies on five of the first six holes on the back nine. She opened with consecutive 68s and shot a 72 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead into the final round.
''I was most impressed with just her demeanor,'' said Lewis, who tied for sixth at 7 under. ''I mean you would have never known that it was the final round of an LPGA event. She played like she had been there before.''
Inbee Park shot a 69 to finish second. Park chipped in for birdie on the final hole, and Ko closed with a bogey to make it closer.
''The pressure she was handling is really amazing,'' Park said. ''I'm really happy for her. It's great for her career - and I think I was just lucky to get the winner's check today.''
Park's $300,000 check as the top pro moved her past Lewis for the season money lead with $1,419,940.
U.S. Women's Open champion Na Yeon Choi, Chella Choi and Jiyai Shin tied for third at 8 under. Na Yeon Choi had a 73, and Chella Choi and Shin shot 71.
The glove Ko wore in the final round will be displayed in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
''To have something that's mine to be up there, it's amazing, and it doesn't come down or anything,'' she said. ''So it will always remain there, and it'll be a good memory. It's been an awesome week.''
Ko was headed to her native South Korea on Monday, and will return to the tour next month for the Women's British Open.

A Nobel Peace Prize and a one Massacre

On 16 July 2012, Aung Sang Suu Kyi, the Myanmar Opposition leader stood in front of a huge audience at the Oslo City hall in Norway. The wait was over for her and, it seemed, for Burma for she was to finally accept the Nobel Peace Prize that had been awarded to her 21 years ago. The moment of triumph was long overdue and victory had been gained after years of the despairing isolation of house arrest. As she spoke about how the prize had succeeded in dispelling the sense of isolation, Suu Kyi steered her speech towards the issue of war. She spoke of how the first world war had represented ‘a terrifying waste of youth and potential’ and how even today we cannot help but wonder what so many young men fighting in that battle really died for.

Are we not still guilty, if to a less violent degree, of recklessness, of improvidence with regard to our future and our humanity? War is not the only arena where peace is done to death. Wherever suffering is ignored, there will be the seeds of conflict, for suffering degrades and embitters and enrages.

Her words are certainly touching and fitting for a Nobel speech. But it seems that fate has a sense of irony and a rather cruel one too; today amidst the persecution of the Rohingya Muslims in Burma, Suu Kyii’s silence is speaking louder than any words she ever uttered. Up till now she has not criticized the Burmese president for questionable policies that are reflective of ethnic cleansing, and critics suggest she also sees the Muslim group as immigrants rather than citizens.

In Pakistan, the reaction appears to be mixed. True, there is growing resentment towards the Burmese government but there are also those who question if the massacre really is taking place or the reports are exaggerated and that the numbers of the victims are not high enough to provoke an outburst. Others also believe that it would be better if we were to pay attention to the problems of our own our own country. For the skeptics, let’s examine the facts; It is certainly true that the Burmese government has denied any violence any security forces against the community. However, what is also noteworthy is that since the riots began, the Burmese authorities have ordered all international NGOs out of the region. Scores of NGO workers staff have been arrested while others are missing.

According to a report by Amnesty International, the situation of ethnic minorities in Burma is grave and violence against the Rohingya community in the western state of Rakhine is on the rise.

These facts speak for themselves. But lets assume for a moments that the reports are exaggerated. Well, what then? Should we wait for the numbers to rise to a million before we protest about the unjust killings of innocent people? The thought seems cruel and harldy one I would like to put to words but then we gone down this road before, haven’t we? Don’t there exist, even today, people who staunchly maintain that the Jewish Holocaust never took place? That the numbers of holocaust victims were not as high as deemed to be? Once, and for all, it doesn’t matter, whether one person is killed or six billion! If they are killed just because they belong to a particular religion, cast, creed or colour, we need to rise up against whoever is committing such atrocities because anyone who can take away innocent lives out of hatred, no matter how many, is capable of just about anything.

As for the opinion that we might be better off worrying about atrocities being committed in our own country, yes, I certainly see where that is coming from. After all, aren’t we also guilty of silence while our borders bleed and thousand meet their deaths in the face of drone attacks? Maybe so, but the thing is, we cannot handpick and choose. There is always going to be a battle between the oppressed and oppressor. Wherever we see that kind of suffering, it is our duty and the rights of the victims that are voices be raised for them. Read about it, understand what is happening, write, talk to people and educate them about the need to spread the word of all the massacres taking place in the world today. Who knows, maybe these small acts may just be the step towards the end.

The history of the Rohingya people is extensive. Is Myanmar really their home? There is a score of literature on the net and books are being published by historians to answer this very same question. But is this really something we need to be focusing on? Does the world need a reminder about the longest war in history, one that is still going on today, namely the Israel-Palestine conflict? After over 60 years what has this questioning achieved? Nothing but the slaughter of innocents and the eviction of so many from the land they once called home. While we continue to bicker over this, we might as well be asking for another Palestine.

There was a time, centuries ago, during the golden period of their history, that the Rohingya people knew what it was like to live in peace. They have waited far too long for their golden age to begin again. Let’s not be embittered by our own divisions to forget their suffering. Because if we do, we are no better than someone who holds a trophy for a life-long struggle for human rights, only to grow silent over the anguished cries of a people waiting for justice to be served.
