There might have been a slight lull in the action for Team GB on Wednesday, however normal service should be resumed on day 13 of the Games.

The hosts endured a disappointing day in many respects, with injuries and losses curtailing the glut of medals.

However Team GB - and particularly the female contingent - have a fantastic chance to hear the national anthem playing once again.

Keri-Anne Payne will look to put her injury and illness problems behind her when she takes part in the women's 10k open-water swim.

The 22-year-old is a two-time world champion and won silver in Beijing four years ago - and she will be hoping her home crowd at the Serpentine can help roar her to victory when the race starts at 12noon.

Leeds boxer Nicola Adams is already guaranteed at least a silver after securing a place in the women's flyweight final - but her sights are set on the gold.

Standing in her way, though at 4.30pm will be three-time world champion Ren Cancan.

Charlotte Dujardin and Laura Bechtolsheimer have already picked up one gold medal in equestrian's team dressage alongside Carl Hester.

However it is now the individual and Dujardin perhaps provides Britain's best hope after her Olympic record performance in the team event.

Rachel Cawthorn missed out on a medal in the K4 event at Eton Dorney - however she has a second bite of the cherry in the kayak single 500m sprint (10.08am).

Jade Jones has high hopes of success in Taekwondo's women's 57kg category - with the fourth seed taking on Dragana Gladovic in her opening bout.

Martin Stamper is also in action in the men's 68kg category, with Eric Osornio Nunez his first opponent.

Team GB are guaranteed another medal in the sailing, with Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell having claimed at least a silver in the 470 class.

However they can still pick up gold in the medal race if they can finish a couple of places ahead of the Australian pairing of Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page.

On the track, the big action will be in the 200m where Usain Bolt will defend his 200m title (8.55pm).

But before that Andrew Osagie goes for glory in the 800m at 8pm but he faces a big ask to break into the medals.

Shanaze Reade has waited four years to make amends for her fall in the BMX final in Beijing and her chance for gold on home soil comes at 4.30pm, while Britain will also hope to reach the women's hockey final at 8pm.

There would be few more popular gold medallists than Sarah Stevenson in the -67kg taekwondo final at 10.15pm. The Yorkshirewoman lost both her parents to cancer last year but still fought her way to an emotional world title.

FULL FRIDAY SCHEDULE

August 11

The men's boxing finals take place over the last two days of competition while the men's football final kicks off at Wembley at 3pm.

It is a big night in athletics, with Mo Farah bidding for gold in the men's 5,000m at 7.30pm, Jenny Meadows hoping to challenge in what is sure to be a competitive women's 800m final at 8pm and the all-conquering Jamaicans surely a shoo-in for gold in the men's 4x100m relay final at 9pm.

Meanwhile, the big moment in the diving pool as far as the host nation is concerned arrives with the final of the men's 10m platform, where Tom Daley will be hoping to overhaul China's Qiu Bo.

FULL SATURDAY SCHEDULE

Britain have won four medals in women's modern pentathlon in the last three Olympics and world champion Mhairi Spence and Samantha Murray will hope to continue that sequence. The final event, the combined run and shoot, begins at 6pm and the medals could be the final ones presented before the closing ceremony brings the curtain down on the London Games.www.skysports.com news
